    Low protein but fussy cat will eat small amounts of it

    My neutered cat Kev will only eat biscuits, so I was surprised when he polished off the first few portions of this I offered him. The shininess has worn off a bit and he now prefers to lick the gravy off and leave most of the lumps, but if he’s hungry he will eat the lot. Very surprised but OK as it adds a bit of alternative nutrition into his diet and supports urinary health. It smells OK to me.It isn’t a very high proportion of meat (total 33%) and has the dreaded ‘meat-derivatives’ listed in the ingredients, which I try to avoid as this could be anything. The front of the pouch says in big letters ‘99% animal proteins*’ & ‘*out of total protein level’. On the back the total crude protein level is stated as 8%, so the protein level is actually quite low. It is 83% moisture. The biscuits I feed him are 75% meat content with no meat derivatives, with a total protein level of about 35%, so the comparison is clear that this product is low-protein and bulked up with stuff cats don’t need. However, a small amount everyday will give him a bit of variety. It would get four stars if the real meat content was higher, and the protein statement on the front of the pouch wasn’t quite as mis-leading.

    My cats love the gravy

    Both my cats are always sceptical about new food. They are on a mix of wet and dry diet, so transitioning into this wasn't a big change. That being said, I gave them half a pouch each to see if it's up their alley, and they seemed to enjoy it somewhat. They both drank the gravy completely, and there's a lot of it, but about 50% of the solid food was left untouched. I've given them this again on another day and they ate more than last time, but never finished it like their normal wet food. Unlike other cat food, I didn't find this to have any overpowering fishy scent, so it's friendly for my nose. The nutrition in this is a lot better than other wet cat foods and if my cats showed more interest, I would be getting this more often. I see this more of a once in a while type of food to give them instead of a daily one.

    I picked this up as a change from my cats usual renal diet food. Nutritionally this isn't quite as good for her stage 2 CKD as her normal food, but it's pretty close, and I needed something to give her a bit of variety as I couldn't risk her getting bored and stopping eating her normal veterinary renal diet since I've only found one brand and flavour she really likes. Essentially this was the least worst way I could introduce something different to her diet.It comes in 100 g sachets, which are easy to store and quick to open without making a mess. The texture is chunks of chicken and white fish in a light gravy. It’s not the thick gelatinous stuff you sometimes get, so the gravy spreads evenly through the food. That’s handy if your cat likes to lick at the gravy before eating the meat. Also even though my cat is a nightmare for just licking up the gravy and leaving the chunks, she seems to eat all of this without a problem, and leaves a clean bowl. The cranberry is added for urinary health. I can’t say for sure how much difference it makes, and I was worried they weren't going to be eaten, but these seem to disappear with all the rest.With 22 sachets in the box, it works out at a fair price for a typical cat food, and is a lot cheaper than the veterinary brand I usually feed her with the added benefit that it's *almost* as good for her failing kidneys. The quality looks good, it smells better than a lot of supermarket brands, and the portion size is just right for a single meal. I’d happily buy it again, especially if it’s on offer.

    Average-ish cat food. I was expecting better for both the price and after reading about the quality. It doesn't look nor smell appealing, my cat isnt fussed either way but she will eat it.
