    I actually ordered this book for a special reason and until now , I have not had the time to sit, ponder and transfer the information I specifically bought this book to contain.Now with the subtraction of needful teens , one back at school and one on vacation, and addition of some stunning ergo pens that enable smooth and cramp free hand writing, I have both the tools and reflective time to enact my original plan and using this Notebook, create an item to treasure- and pass down to future generations with what it will be containing..When I was younger , and started learning how to cook in home economics class at age 12, I purchased for my own use, a simple, spiral notebooks in which to start containing recipes to collect and refer to for my own personal use and record. With no computers or mobile phones back in the 80's, we wrote things down and now, 38 years later , I still own and treasure this book and its variety of writing styles , recipes, people who contributed to it and memories attached to each dish.Get togethers, Celebrations, Occasions and food styles , Days spent cooking different cuisines for themed events and researching the VERY best recipes to do so , were fueled and hallmarked by this book. A time capsule and almanac with tattered love worn pages, containing the handwritten, secrets of glorious food offerings, passed down in my grandmothers own hand writing , spectacular foods and creations that would every time surpass any other similar food items, I have tasted, before or since she departed this realm.Oma would come to visit from interstate, stand in our kitchen , while I silently watched in awe as she created her beautiful food with rythym and dexterity and not a recipe or measuring device of quantity in sight. She would cook everything from authentic Dutch Croquettes to Buns, Fruit loaves and bespoke hand shaped, kneaded and proofed breads- her skilled hands deftly kneading dough to become loafs and buns , indescribable in flavor density and texture, using live yeast, authentic traditional methods and shaping everything so perfectly, while talking to me and looking at me- it was as if her hands had eyes of their own- every bun or twist perfect. With steady, skilled patience and quiet confidence honed from years of perfecting her art., we would all be the benefactors of unbelievable flavour and texture profiles that would leave me yearning for her cooking for 8 months after she left , awaiting her yearly visit. This book contains these recipes from Oma and Nana, to be shared and enjoyed , and now with my humble book - I have the special formula written in the hand that creates the food and by the creators themselves!! Who were beloved to me.When fresh out of home, in flats or dorms studying or/ and working " 20 somethings" , My sisters, Friends and I shared great recipe 'discoveries" often passed among the whole of our group due to their simplicity and winning appreciation when served at 80's "Dinner Parties". My friends and I would also take turns hosting dinner mid week, meaning instead of cooking every night for ourselves , we would cook once during the work week, for everyone- 4 of us worked together, we all went to school together and were all very close and still are. So this provided excellent opportunity for me to research winner dinners to "secretly impress" and quite a few recipes in this book came about this way.As we all lived in same suburb this was a lovely way to eat together and engage in a bit of "heathy competition" trying out new meals to impress and nurture each other cheat, no fail meal recipes up our sleeve, as a few of us weThe Meal that literally is THE most stained page in my book was an invented version and take on a popular cuisine offering , of the time. We ALL made our own version of the meal known as- " Garlic , Brie and Cranberry Sauce " stuffed chicken breast, lightly crumbed and pan fried, served with various accompaniments- a fave being , 3 minute noodles tossed in bottled sweet chilli sauce and arranged with a single waterlogged Broccoli floret to the side for 'presentation" haha. To us, in our youth, this was a " 5 Star "Gourmet Favorite" capable of being served at the Hilton Hotel fine dining restaurant. I still have my own "unique" take on this meal written in book- my secret was to add cream to the beaten egg to coat chicken breasts after stuffing and dusting with flour before crumbing. My other secret was to whizz up flaked toasted almonds and day old crust of rye bread in food processor, making my own crumb, add a little vegeta powder to this, and mix in with store-bought breadcrumbs to coat crumb chicken. Everyone loved this and I never said a word about my 'secret" method and ingredients!!With progression of time , as we partnered and had children, - yet more special edible delights to share and save to book , would abound! To honor this passage in life, we would share "kids party hits " like cups n saucers- marshmallow cups , with half a musk lifesaver handle , atop pink or yellow tick-tock iced biscuit, top of marshmallow cup dusted with 'cocoa" and honesty they looked just like cups n saucers . kids at parties were wild for them.I have a "Swimming Pool " birthday cake recipe- transposed by my sister into book, after it was a hit at her sons 5th birthday- with her own wording of instructions, hand drawn assembly diagrams and a loan of a huge glass bowl in which to half set the multiple packets of green jelly , which Filled the Pool with " Green Wobbly Water" and filled the kids consuming it with a whole new "kind" of energy surge, just as tired mums were about about to call it a day , with a thanks and exit.As Kids Grew Older , Many recipes were shared and either sent by email, printed out and glued into book or hand written by the person sharing the recipe either directly into book or on a scrap of paper, after a sensational 'dish' was discovered at a food laden event, requested and proudly written down by host on napkin coaster or whatever would suffice at an outdoor or barbeque event.Recipes I invented that worked exceptionally well, others researched for a specialty theme and many others were kept , cooked and treasured in my " Secret Recipe Book- To be Shared Strictly among Loved Ones. I found THE BEST EVER carrot cake recipe - now years later unfindable on internet, it was about 13 years ago and was the winners recipe for a huge illustrious Southern Fair overseas where Cake competitions are serious business- it is an AMAZING recipe- In the book!Barely holding together 38 years after its initial creation, faded writing traced over carefully to preserve information by my own hand, age faded , creased and more donkey then dog eared on every single page, remaining faint smears of chocolate or spice on select pages. To this very day, I still hold this book as the most memorial and evocative item I have in my possession, as it captured not only recipes, but whole events, times of life and most importantly words and flourish of hand from beloved people, gone for many decades, between its pages.- I treasure this Book, still do and intended to pass it to my daughter - until fate intervened and nearly rendered it completely destroyed earlier this year.During summer months and right now as I type, the area I live in get a lot of rainfall. A few months ago we had a particularly concentrated stream of heavy rains and flooding - daily and for weeks at a time. On an unusually bright and sunny morning , with rain not predicted until late afternoon, placed this recipe book in a zip up calico bag to walk over to my friends house in the next street, She wants to photocopy a few of my Nannas traditional Middle Eastern Recipes and within half an hour, I was headed for home , literal minutes away on foot.I rounded the corner into my street just as clouds were fast descending, darkening their hue and about to release. Walking so fast it was a mild canter, anxious to arrive home before the skies opened with fury and fixated on retrieving my 3 large loads of dry washing off line before downpour, I retrieved house keys and then practically threw my bag containing recipe book haphazardly over a plant hook on porch wall to free up hands to unlock 3 separate door locks. Thunder rumbling, I finally got deadbolt unlocked ,flew through door , down back steps at breakneck pace and ripped pegs off line with wild abandon , throwing clothing into two wash baskets as raindrops became longer and larger . I almost shot putted these huge baskets into sheltered laundry as I remembered I had flung open every single window in house to allow some sunshine and air in after 3 weeks of rain, so yanked each window in every room shut and then .Relieved and exhausted and slumping on couch - I hear a faint ringing over rain and realize my phone is on a table on porch in a protected spot, but as I get up to retrieve it , and open front door, I then spy the long handled calico bag containing recipe book, zipper half open from key retrieval, hanging DIRECTLY under the one and only hole in Porch tin roof, made significantly bigger buy heavy rain over recent times- hence me placing a plant hook directly under it to capture rain water.Now my open calico , non waterproof book bag was capturing the rain "flow" , hanging limply by one long calico handle off hook, tension of partially opened metal zipper teeth gaping outward unsupported by second handle hanging tension thus- effectively creating a "mouth to drink the water" at top of bag . I yanked bag off hook , almost scared to look, but bag felt wet as water was falling around , on and right into it.Feeling a little faint at the prospect of what lay within , I dared not look before heading back inside with great haste. I tipped my recipe book out of bag onto dry, rug on floor, its cover beaded in large water droplets and top page edges completely wet. Feeling sick I turned my precious book carefully around to assess damage and noted that the side page edges were only moist, mostly at top half of book and at bottom of book, edges were barely damp.Confused but relieved , and wondering "but how" while gently wiping cover dry with absorbent towel and armed with a hairdryer - I was able to preserve most of writing and content in book, no pages stuck together as thankfully only top edge of book actually got "wet" - most importantly all of the methods of recipes, and the vast majority of ingredients and quantities , with maybe half a dozen recipes at front of book, with their first few lines illegible, but easily remedied due to my memory of cooking these multiple times over multiple years.My 38 year old Book should have been reduced to paper pulp, for all intents and purposes- but lady luck must have been on my side, this day , as an internal calico side "pocket", contained inside top half of bag on side that was hanging ( thank GOODNESS!) was still stuffed with tissues re the last time I had used this bag during hay fever season, effectively creating and absorbent "cushion " I had not even noticed, when I dropped book lightly into bag to take quickly over to my friends.As this internal side pocket is large and usually flat, and I had literally, stuffed half a box of tissues into it, flattened during storage under other items, this would have further helped by making tissue barrier, denser with less passage for water exit. With usually flat pocket opening gaping into slight trough, due to tissue stuffing projection - the vast majority of the water entering bag, went into trough and got absorbed by tissues which were so sodden , I could ring them out.I was SO RELIEVED -Words can not express the enormity. Had my phone not rung, or had no tissues been stuffed in canvas pocket, which by chance was on the hanging side of bag, allowing for projection of pocket when hung on inside upper area of bag- 38 years of history , memories, flavors and Recipes would have been unable to be saved.Even if some recipes could have been re obtained- what gives my book its charm , is the individual hand writing evoking memories of its author and connection to these occasions, poignancy and treasured keepsake to remind me of those no longer with us.I would have been devastated if a simple oversite and a few variations in the circumstances had a unfixable and devastating foregone conclusion instead of a VERY lucky "Save" -So for this VERY reason, I saw and ordered this SIIXU Hard Covered , Perfectly Sized and well Constructed NOTEBOOK, to hold every single precious recipe from the original "vintage" collated Recipe Book I nearly lost forever.I have been transferring each recipe by hand and THIS beautiful , durable and delightfully decorative lined Notebook will be the book I use to refer to when cooking these recipes and the book I take out to friends or family, when sharing, copying or cooking these recipes- alone or together.Each substantially thick, premium quality paper page is individually defined by variations of subtle water color daubs and tranquil pictorial subjects such as flowers, boats bobbing gently on water ,green leaves gently clustered - with adjoining page picking up a tastefully discreet feature of previous theme on some pages.Scenes, Color Use and Themes are beautifully represented, adding whimsy, relaxed delight, tranquility and individuality which provide a subtle backdrop to chosen words written upon them.Tastefully aesthetic and enhancing is the gentle artistic depiction featured on each page , to describe a few of these soft ethereal impressions -* gently sprinkled falling raindrops,* a few softly drifting flower petals traversing gently downward ,*A misty lavender sky dappled with faintly strewn stars ,*A miniscule yet sovereign dragonfly, routed toward a gelato hued daub of color on adjoining page* A solitary leaf , muted streak of lime, blown afar by an invisible kiss of wind to opposite page , alone and disconnected from its abstract foliage featured on previous adjoining page .This beautifully composed keepsake book is lined subtly for order and presentation of writing , yet this added feature does not overshadow or detract from the exquisite water colored depictions, which command the eye in a soothing almost soporific way, encouraging a relaxed state of mind, which is best suited to creative writing, reflection and relaxed mind, slowing down irrelevant thought patterns and allowing for transient mind process required to best emote and pour forth words through use of pen to express sentiment, ideas or purpose.This Journal is most certainly produced to a superior standard in both quality of paper, binding , durable hard cover to protect contents and Delightful and Charming design inclusions .The more I leafed through, paused to absorb and enjoy each of this journals pages, the more obvious it became to me that this book is of much finer quality, then my initial first impressions of just flipping briefly through it.Due to its varied and non- exclusive choices of artistic enhancement- this beautiful Notebook is just as appropriate to house personal thoughts as it is to compose , pen and hold poetry , create a memory book or in my Case- Transpose decades of treasured recipes into a substantial , aesthetic , durable Testimonial that can be handed down through generations to be enjoyed and shared.While the original paper hub of reminiscence, Recipes ,Love and irreplaceable memoirs , anecdotes , hand drawn instructional pictures , and little messages beside each recipe, can now be retired from use and kept safely preserved in a dedicated coffret to protect its time and love worn condition from further deterioration and weather events, it is not being stored so deeply that it can not be gently leafed through purely for he rich , lucid and vivid memories it activates with so much more then Recipes. It is still here to be admired and examined with gentle curiosity and lament, at any time both now and in the future, hopefully continuing to create new memories for those who behold it and have a connection to its offerings and those who contributed to its enduring nature and its impactful continuity.
