Amaran Ray 120c - kompakt, leise, leistungsstark
Die Verarbeitungsqualität ist durchweg überzeugend und entspricht dem, was man von Amaran erwartet: Solide, sauber gefertigt und einfach zu bedienen. Auch beim Licht-Output gibt es keinerlei Anlass zur Kritik. Die Leistung ist mehr als ausreichend, um das Licht problemlos als Keylight einzusetzen.In der Praxis kam das Licht bei Videoaufnahmen mit dem Canon RF 24–105mm f/4 sowie dem Sigma 50mm f/1.4 zum Einsatz. In beiden Setups war selbst bei kleinster Blende genügend Licht vorhanden, sodass ich dauerhaft im Bereich von etwa 25–50% Output arbeiten konnte. Das bietet nicht nur Reserven, sondern wirkt sich auch positiv auf Lautstärke und Hitzeentwicklung aus.Apropos Lautstärke: Der Lüfter ist bis etwa 25-30% Output praktisch nicht wahrnehmbar. Erst als ich mit dem Ohr direkt an das Gerät gegangen bin, war ein Laufgeräusch festzustellen. Selbst bei 100% Leistung bleibt der Lüfter so leise, dass ein Shotgun-Mikrofon in etwa 1,5 bis 2 Metern Entfernung problemlos positioniert werden kann, ohne dass das Lüftergeräusch in der Aufnahme hörbar ist.Ergänzt habe ich das Setup um eine 90 cm Softbox mit Bowens-Mount von einem Dritthersteller. Diese ließ sich ohne Probleme montieren, rastet sauber ein und sitzt stabil – keinerlei Spiel oder Unsicherheiten im Betrieb.Die Einrichtung über die Amaran-App ist dank NFC vorbildlich gelöst. Die Verbindung ist in wenigen Sekunden hergestellt und sofort einsatzbereit. Besonders positiv: Auch nach mehreren Tagen ohne App-Nutzung bleibt die Verbindung gespeichert und stabil, ohne erneutes Koppeln.Das einzige echte Manko betrifft die Konstruktion des Griffs bzw. der Halterung, an der Licht und Power-Adapter befestigt sind. Ab Werk ist vorgesehen, den Power-Adapter vor dem Licht einzuhängen. Dadurch gerät er inklusive Halterung schnell in den Weg, sobald man das Licht auch nur leicht nach unten neigen möchte. Ich habe das Problem für mich gelöst, indem ich die Schraube gelöst, die kleine Schirm-Halterung (2 kleinen Torx-Schrauben) entfernt und das obere Element mit dem Schnellverschluss um 180 Grad gedreht habe. Nun sitzt die Halterung für den Power-Adapter hinter dem Licht, und der Neigewinkel ist nur noch durch die Softbox begrenzt – so, wie es eigentlich sein sollte. (siehe Foto)Unterm Strich überzeugt das Licht mit starker Leistung, sehr leiser Kühlung, einfacher App-Anbindung und hoher Praxistauglichkeit. Mit einer kleinen mechanischen Anpassung wird es für Video-Setups nahezu perfekt.

Small, light but very powerful RGB LED light. Perfect for interviews etc. First light of this kind that I liked 100% the moment I got it in my hands. Brilliant things in the design, go check YouTube for reviews. Going to buy 1-2 more of these soon. However two things to keep in mind:1. If you keep the dome attached to the LED (since it fits to the case with that) then remember to fully open the Octa Dome before switching the power on. If on full power, the light becomes really hot in seconds and starts to burn holes in the thin plastic material of the unfolded dome that touches the led lamp heart. The dome itself is genius: it opens easily and stays in shape without a lot of frustrating wrestling like with that GODOX similar size dome.2. The Adapter Grip that comes with the package is really sturdy but also heavy for its small size. Not a big deal all in all but if you are traveling a lot on airplanes (where and every gram counts in the luggage) then keep this in mind if you plan to carry several of these with you. I try to aim to as light gear as possible and my (about similar size) Godox LED light has a really light plasticky grip. Unfortunately the new (otherwise genious) magnetic attachment design of the Amaran Adapter Grip is built so, that you cant use a traditional grip instead of it. But luckily there is a ¼ inch screw hole in the upper side of the light. That way you should be able to attach it to a universal mount should you lose the original Adapter Grip. Just the info panel will be upside down but the LED is usable.

Alles wunderbar. Super Gerät – gibt natürlich noch bessere Scheinwerfer – aber für das Geld wirklich ein super Teil mit dem man defacto alles Richtung Profibereich machen kann;)
