Portable speaker with Impressive features and versatility. No convincing sound quality
It has the same vertical cylindrical look like my old JBL Blue but it is quite taller and wider than than.That said, I also expected a better, richer sound, especially in the low frequency spectrum (bass). It is expected that smaller speakers do not deliver the richest basses. And it is newer But here comes the first disappointment. The sound is NOT thicker. Especially the bass does not fill the atmosphere in the same way the 5 year old, smaller (with dried/aged speaker, exposed to all possible weather conditions non-stop for months, placed and forgotten at gardens, camping facilities and beaches, under the sun and rain) JBL does. Bass is kind of tin-sounding, thin and disappointing. The speaker comes with a very practical equalizer (ready made settings in three different profiles that you can rotate through, with a button press). Even with this I could not get something comparable in any of the profiles. This was a negative surprise because in the product's page one of the main highlights was the "Dual Bass Drivers" and I had high expectations due to that.Same goes with the other frequencies too, high ones included. It is distorting and feels artificial. This is only getting worse when you increase the output volume of the speaker (it can go up to 20 W) or you increase the input volume of the source.Now for the rest of the features:- Appearance: It looks elegant. Not aggressive, not attracting unnecessary attention but on the same time does not look anything like cheap. Exactly as a speaker should be.- LEDs: For the people that do feel a little bit more playful or want to easily locate it when dark or when used for party, the speaker supports LED blinking functionalities (controlled by the ON/OFF button) using the light of the other control buttons. From no light, permanent light and rotating colors.- Quality of Manufacturing: Made of sturdy plastic, with protective rubber edges. Gives me the feeling it can withstand some weather conditions and a level of being rough to it. It is IPX7 Waterproof (meaning theoretically the device can be submerged in up to 1 meter of fresh water for 30 minutes, which is exceptionally impressive. Anyway the instructions of the product clearly state not to submerge it into water). All inputs are covered by a protective rubber lid that fits firmly.- Portability: Average. Bigger than others without delivering significantly advantages due to the extra volume it occupies. Lightweight enough to carry with.- Sound Sources: Really versatile as far as inputs are concerned. Bluetooth (immediately recognized as M17 and connected, automatically connecting every other time). Aux sound (stereo in, cable included). USB-A for plugging in USB sticks (I tried by simply copying an mp3 to the root directory of a Microsoft formatted stick, plugged it in, got automatically recognized and played). TF (TransFlash card, what most of us know as microSD), which also plays without any issues.- Power and charging: A big battery (according to product's description giving up to 30h of autonomy (in the product's images there is a misalignment, since it mentions 20h), but this depends of the usage, volume of sound, if it is connected via cable or Bluetooth, if the lights are blinking or not and many other factors)- TWS mode: True Wireless Stereo feature. I could not test this cause it needs a pair and I only have one, though.- Easiness of control: Practical, self explained controls (and also a multilingual illustrated operational manual included). Next/Previous song by prolonged press. Volume up/down. Switching light modes. Equalizer. Light controls.Answer and reject calls.- Mobile phone functionality: Voice calls can be answered, terminated, rejected by the speaker too.- Status messages: Unfortunately, this is one of these devices that chose to "announce" their mode with a human strange-accent voice. Like "Connecting", "Incoming Call". "Connected". For me this is really disturbing, especially when you use this at a romantic evening, at a beach... it can be really distracting. I would so much more prefer a subtle "beep"Overall: I gave it a lot of thought and decided that this is a 3 star product. Sound-wise it was below my expectations but the extra features, weather resistance, versatility and cheap price help it get the 3 stars. If you see it as a reliable hard worker to undertake the difficult missions where the sound quality is not a real concern, it will be a life-saver. And with this price, you don't really have to worry if it gets damaged, stolen, scratched. Just enjoy the time and the music. If you look for an all around speaker, to deliver quality music even in-house, then you could evaluate other solutions, too.
Guter Sound, robust, lange Akkulaufzeit...
Vorweg: Dass ich das Produkt kostenfrei zur Verfügung gestellt bekommen habe beeinflusst nicht die Rezension. Ich gebe meine ehrliche Meinung wieder.Man erhält mit dem dotn M17 eine solide und bezahlbare Lautsprecherbox. Die Bluetooth Kopplung mit Handy oder MP3 Player funktioniert einwandfrei. Darüber hinaus gibt es einen althergebrachten AUX-Anschluß, ein passendes Kabel für die Verbindung z.B. mit einem Fernseher wird mitgeliefert. Und ein USB-C-auf-USB-A-Kabel. Außerdem ein Micro-SD-Slot, der den Lautsprecher auch ganz ohne Funk zum simplen MP3-Player macht.Die Verarbeitung ist gut, nichts wirkt billig. Die Optik ist gefällig und die Bedienung erfreulich simpel. Die Beleuchtung lässt sich aus schalten. Auch über eine Trageschlaufe verfügt der Lautsprecher. Die Akkulaufzeit ist dank des großen Akkus ausreichend.Kommen wir nun zum wesentlichen, dem Sound: Nach meinem Geschmack ist der Klang für geringe bis mittlere Lautstärke erstaunlich gut. Auch bei höherer Lautstärke bleiben Verzerrungen usw. gering. Kommen dann aber nicht mehr an die Sauberkeit von mehreren hundert Euro teuren Lautsprechern heran. Der Bass ist ausreichend, man kann zwischen 3 Klangprofilen (EQ) auswählen. Dank IP7 macht dem Lautsprecher auch ein kurzer Regenguss nichts aus.Das Pairing funktioniert unkompliziert, eine App ist nicht nötig. Am besten klingt der Lautsprecher stehend, mit den Bedienelementen nach hinten (vom Hörer weg). Liegend funktioniert zwar theoretisch, praktisch rollt er aber munter davon, weil eine echte plane Auflagefläche fehlt. Das ist schade, weil genau an den Seiten sitzen die Bassradiatoren.Was noch schön wäre, ist passende Aufbewahrungstasche. Aber bei dem günstigen Preis ein bisschen viel verlangt...
