Als Podcaster mit eigenem Studio für den YouTube Kanal @AlphaKrypto brauchte ich ein All-in-One-Mischpult, das mich vom Kabelsalat befreit. Der RØDECaster Pro II versprach das – und hat nach zig Monaten vieles revolutioniert, aber auch zwei handfeste Schwächen, die mir täglich begegnen.---Warum ich den „Profi-Koffer“ kaufteFrüher: USB-Mikros, ein Audiointerface, ein Monitor-Splitter und ein Tablet für Soundeffekte – mein Schreibtisch sah aus wie ein Raumschiff-Cockpit! Als mein alter Mixer den Geist aufgab, suchte ich nach einer platzsparenden Profilösung (lol, wie sich das rausstellen würde…).Zweiter Versuch mit dem Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen, doch dessen Vorverstärker war nicht nur zu schwach für das Shure SM7B, sondern ich habe leider ein defektes Gerät erhalten.---Was kann der RØDECaster Pro II? Mehrmals dachte ich "kaputt?", dabei war er nur nicht richtig gedrückt.---Meine Alltagserlebnisse – das Gute & das Frustrierende- Podcast-Wunder: Letzte Woche hatte ich die Oma Inge per VoIP im Talk – mit einem Klick aktivierte ich den "Voice Focus"-Filter. Für den Preis erwarte ich präzise Klick-Feedback!ABER: Die Audio-Qualität, intelligente Software und Workflow-Vereinfachung sind so überragend, dass ich dennoch 4 Sterne vergebe. Er bleibt mein täglicher Begleiter – auch wenn ich dafür jetzt im Schneidersitz arbeite.Kaufempfehlung? Ja – aber nur wenn ihr Platz habt und euch nicht an weichen Taschen stört! Wer professionell podcastet, wird die Vorteile lieben. Wer nur Solo-Videos macht: Greift zum kleinen Bruder Duo!Hinweis: Selbst gekauft – und trotz Macken keine Rückgabe. Having a chat channel available over USBC has got rid of the TTRS cable previously needed. Also if you plug in a on other USBC cable you would then have 3!The unit is smaller and there is a ton of customizability. All settings can be changed via the computer app.Having a powerful processor means it can also handle power hungry effects LIVE, these effects can also be programmed into any smart pad. You are not limited to only one effect on one smart pad!The amp is also a lot more powerful, I’m a quiet speaker and use the SM7B so I previously needed a lot of extra gain by using a cloudlifter. With the RCP2 I longer need the CL and there is maybe less noticeable hiss (though that could be down to the impressive SM7B processing present).In the box was included 2 x 2 metre USBC cables.Tom Buck kept me excited about this product and so far I am very impressed.
Known Issues that RODE Hides
SUMMARY -- This unit has an issue that RODE knows about but that fails to disclose unless you really pry and won't take "no" from technical support. The unit produces a delay when direct monitoring, which is extremely annoying if you know how direct monitoring should really work.I did extensive research before buying this. I then spent an entire weekend (all day Saturday and Sunday) learning how to use this and playing around with the settings. Unfortunately, there was a really annoying delay when direct monitoring myself. The delay almost sounded like an echo, but not quite. It made my voice sound very odd, which was extremely distracting when using it. Have you ever had a telephone call and there was an echo? That's what is sounded like, but to a much less degree. It was annoying enough that I dismantled my setup and reverted to my old setup until I could resolve the issue. I called RODE and while they were helpful, they initially hid the issue from me. The issue turns out that there is a slight delay when direct monitoring because the unit does so much processing and it can't possibly do all this processing and NOT produce a delay. The result sounds absolutely terrible if you are used to direct monitoring with zero latency. I was previously using a Shure MV7 (a USB microphone) and no audio interface. I then switched to this along with a Shure SM7B and the delay was so unbearable that I ended up returning it. My previous setup sounded 10 times better. Granted, this only affects what you hear but if you hate a minor echo, then don't waste your time. I talked to tech support multiple times and there was ultimately nothing that could be done to fix the issue.What was the most irking was the fact that I spent an entire weekend of my time setting this up and learning it, then over 10 days tinkering with it with technical support. They didn't decide to tell me until I absolutely grilled them and told them multiple times that I would rather know if this issue was unsolvable as I didn't want to waste any more of my time. Only at that point did they fess up and tell me it's a known issue but that "most people don't notice". I can only assume that most people don't notice because they have not used direct monitoring before so they don't know what is should sound like.I ended up buying a Focusrite Solo for $150 and am 100 times happier. Yes, I miss all the features the RODE offers but the delay/echo was absolutely unbearable to listen to.For the record, I almost never write customer reviews unless I am extremely happy or extremely pissed off. I am obviously the latter.This is a huge issue because most people aren't used to the sound of their voice, or if they are, they don't like it. Using the RODE makes your voice sound much worse than it actually is, which I can only presume will disincentive a lot of people from using it.
