    Chess set is nice, as described. The Box came ripped due to customs opening it. With the storage box was damaged and dirty. Something to consider if gifting it. Luckily it is for myself so will not make a difference

    The quality of the stone; travertine & marble is unquestionable. It is a very heavy set and excellent value at $65. The polish and finish of the board and the pieces are also very good. The pieces do arrive a bit dusty (dust from stone). There are circular black stickers included to affix to the bottom of each piece.The style of the pieces is somewhat unique. The knights appear to have been dieting, and the rooks seems to be parading as shorter versions of the queen.This is my first contact with travertine stone and I'm definitely on the fence with regards to it's look and feel. This particular type of stone is cheaper than marble (but more expensive that granite) and is filled with irregular holes and crevices, which I can kind of appreciate as a design feature, but I do suffer from a degree of trypophobia, and the texture is throwing me little - so if you, or who you'll be playing with has that affliction, it's a factor to consider.

    This is a great set. The pieces are heavy and the whole thing is beautiful all set up. Very classy and "old world."The dark pieces are made from a textured stone that has a lot of cracked and pitted surface area. In my view this compares poorly to the very smooth white pieces, and I might have preferred them to have a similar feel.That said, I think this is a great gift set for a chest enthusiast who wants a step up from their first wooden set.
