Smart and efficient update for the garden
Got this to swap out the old patio light as it was looking really scruffy. My wife nagged me for a nicer design that did not look so cheap. Must admit, it feels like a proper solid light straight out the packaging.Pros:The aluminium build feels really sturdy. She prefers things that actually feel durable, and the weatherproof casing gives you confidence it will survive the British weatherThe sensor sensitivity is spot on. It picks up movement exactly when you need it to, and the best bit is it does not keep triggering every time a leaf blows pastThe installation was dead simple. I was worried it might be a headache to wire up to the mains, but the instructions were clear and it went on the wall with no botherThe highly efficient LED is excellent. It gives off a really bright warm glow, and knowing it uses hardly any electricity is a nice bonus for the billsThe really long lifespan is great. Robust Wall Light - Emits Pleasant Warm White Light
First things first: Philips products are often very expensive, significantly expensive that other brands and especially as no-name brands. This light is no exception to that and the price level is very close to my pain level when it comes to a small, waterproof outdoor lamp. Nevertheless, I also have to point out that many Philips products are build to a very high standard and their lifetime often significantly exceeds the lifetime of competitor-products. This Philips capricorn outdoor wall light looks modern and it works very well at the same time. With a brightness output of 800 lumens, this wall light provides enough illumination for patios, gardens, or driveways, making it easier to navigate these areas after dark. However, it is not meant to work like a floodlight and therefore doesn't replace the need for a floodlight in case you occasionally require strong, bright light. The warm white colour of this wall lamp emits a soft, inviting glow that creates a welcoming atmosphere. The light is made of durable aluminium, so there are no problems withstanding British weather conditions. The lamp is IP44 rated which I consider sufficient for an outdoor wall light. The built-in LED technology is modern standard and therefore energy efficient. The anthracite-grey finish is both sleek and contemporary. I like the contrast between the lamp colour and the white patio wall where I installed it. Installation was straightforward, especially because I used this light to replace the old fashioned and partly broken light that had been sitting in the same spot before, so there was no need to run new wires. I have deducted one star because I still think that the lamp is slightly overpriced, despite its modern look and good performance.

I've had this Philips light for some time now. First impression was quite a surprise at how light it is. To be honest, it actually feels a bit plasticky in the hand; it has this rough, matte finish that's a bit deceptive. It is indeed aluminium, but it lacks that heavy, dense feeling you might expect from premium outdoor hardware! It's a bit of a lightweight little thing... though it still feels sturdy enough once it's actually mounted.Installation was surprisingly painless. You just use two screws, one at the top and one at the bottom, to pop the front cover off, which gives you access to the wiring. There's actually a decent amount of breathing room inside this one and I've had to take it apart a few weeks later and was glad to see that nothing leaked or decided to live inside it.Once it was up and running, the light itself is actually quite good. It's 2700K, so it's closer to that warm, amber-leaning white that I think looks quite cozy. The design is a sort of industrial-modern circle, and the front diffuser has this subtle ribbed texture to it. I think that ribbing is intentional; it seems to help catch the light and throw it outwards in an even spread rather than just blasting a single, harsh beam straight ahead. It's not harsh to look at directly, too.It's an integrated LED with a long life and my experience with LED's that are well protected (i.e., not drenched in rain) is that they can last years no problem, I'm assuming it'll be a long time before I'm thinking about this thing again, and that's kinda the point I wanted from it. It just works.
Lovely glow and easy to install
We have a farm-style gate to our property and at night it gets pretty dark. Over the winter, I see delivery drivers struggle and so have decided to install a light.This is quite utilitarian in looks, nothing stellar in design, but simple and goes with a lot of surroundings. It’s more functional than flashy, but that’s precisely what I was after.Very easy to fit, no user-replaceable bulbs but I am hoping this means super sealed and will last for a great many years out in the elements.Lovely warm glow.
