What an upgrade at an INCREDIBLE value. This is without question the best midi controller on the market. It is packed with features like an arpeggiator, a sequencer engine with pattern chaining, mutation, spice, modulation and more. Control knobs for LFO’s, and so much more. At this price it is not a piece of gear to pass on.

Massive Upgrade From The MK1

I’ve owned every iteration of the Keystep, and I primarily use them to control outboard gear rather than software instruments. With that in mind, the Arturia Keystep 37 MkII feels like a very confident and well-considered evolution of the line. From the first power up, it’s clear this version builds meaningfully on what came before.The unit arrives in solid packaging and includes a good quality USB cable, which immediately sets a positive first impression.Build quality is better than expected. While the Keystep 37 MkII is clearly constructed with a mostly plastic chassis to help keep costs down, Arturia has more than made up for this by packing it with a ton of new features that the original simply did not have. Despite the lighter materials, it still feels solid, well assembled, and reliable, with controls that respond confidently and don’t feel cheap.One of the standout features for me is the screen. It’s clear, practical, and shows all the information you need during setup and use. When paired with the central dial, navigation feels smooth and responsive, working together far better than I initially expected.The sequencer is another major highlight. It offers a range of creative features that can easily lead to sequences you wouldn’t normally think of when working in a more traditional way. This makes experimentation genuinely fun and often results in unexpected musical ideas. The added sequencing options and song modes give the Keystep 37 MkII a surprising amount of depth.I also found assigning the encoders for MIDI CC control to be far easier than on the original models. Being able to do this directly on the device, without needing to open MIDI Control Center, is a huge improvement—especially when working with hardware setups. It significantly speeds up workflow and makes the Keystep 37 MkII feel much more self contained and performance friendly.Turning the unit on is met with a subtle but pleasing light show, and the overall control layout is very intuitive. Buttons and knobs are logically placed, making it easy to jump in and start creating without constantly checking the manual.Overall, the Arturia Keystep 37 MkII feels like a thoughtfully designed and inspiring controller. For controlling outboard gear in particular, the combination of a clear screen, creative sequencing features, intuitive controls, and improved CC assignment makes it a genuinely powerful and enjoyable tool for both studio work and live performance. I am looking forward to properly integrating it into my setup.

Basic Functionality Missing!

Whilst this might appear to be a significant upgrade to the original keystep, they have removed a basic function which I need in my workflow.You can no-longer transpose a sequence from external midi.This basic functionality was available on the original keystep via Arturia's MIDI Control Centre app.You could set the transpose midi channel input.This setting has been removed from the MCC app when connected to the Keystep 37 Mk2.Do a search for Transpose Keystep 37 mk2 from external midi and you'll get AI thinking this is still possible with the mk2 because it's fair to assume that the mk2 'upgrade' would not in fact be the 'downgrade' that it is in this respect.Incidentally, Arturia support is terrible! The operatives that try to answer your queries have zero knowledge of their products. They are just there to pull on incorrect AI info and to not actually answer your questions!
