    Low budget, best quality

    5/5 · Gas Ghost

The Donner StarryPad is a classic example of a "budget disruptor." It’s aimed squarely at the space dominated by the Akai LPD8 or the PreSonus Atom, but it throws in a few surprisingly professional features that you wouldn’t expect for under 100 euros. The Pads: Better than the Price SuggestsThe 16 RGB pads are the main event. They feel surprisingly "bouncy" and responsive. They aren't as stiff as some older budget controllers, allowing for decent finger drumming without having to hammer your fingers into the plastic. • Velocity & Aftertouch: They handle velocity curves well, but the real surprise is the inclusion of polyphonic aftertouch on the Mini model (or channel aftertouch on the standard). This allows for expressive control—like leaning into a pad to open a filter—that is rare at this price point. • Banks: With three banks, you actually have 48 pads available at any time, which is plenty for triggering complex sample sets or drum kits. The "Hardware" Secret SauceWhat makes the StarryPad stand out to gear-heads isn't just the USB-C connection; it’s the real MIDI output (3.5mm TRS). Most cheap pad controllers are USB-only, meaning they need a computer to work. Because the StarryPad has a physical MIDI Out, you can use it to trigger your external hardware synths or drum machines (like your Volca Beats or Medieval) directly, provided you use the included adapter. Controls and Layout• Knobs and Faders: You get two assignable knobs and two faders. The faders are a bit short, so they aren't ideal for precision mixing, but they’re great for macro controls or "performance" tweaks like filter sweeps. • Note Repeat: There’s a dedicated Note Repeat button, which is essential for trap-style hi-hat rolls or keeping things in sync with your DAW’s tap tempo. The Software/SetupThis is where the "budget" nature shows a little. To really customize the pads (colors, MIDI CC numbers, etc.), you have to use the StarryPad Editor software. It’s functional, but the UI is a bit dated and it can be a slight hurdle to set up initially. Once you’ve mapped it to your favorite DAW (Ableton, FL Studio, etc.), however, it’s a "set and forget" situation. The VerdictThe Donner StarryPad is for the producer who wants a portable, rugged grid but doesn't want to pay the "brand tax" for an MPC or a Maschine.Pros:• Expressive Pads: Velocity sensitivity is solid; the RGB lighting is helpful for organizing sounds. • Hardware MIDI Out: Huge win for anyone with a "no-computer" setup.• USB-C: Modern, sturdy, and class-compliant (works with iPads/Phones). • Price: Unbeatable value for 16 pads + knobs + faders.Cons:• Software Editor: A bit clunky and necessary for deep customization.• Fader Throw: The sliders are very short, limiting their use for fine adjustments.Final Thought:If you're looking for a companion to your current setup, this is a very smart, low-risk addition to your desk.

    Kleines Teil, großer Spaß

    5/5 · Bellubadon

    5 stars for the price

    5/5 · SZALONTAY Zoltan

I am using it with Ableton Live 12 Intro with free drumkits. The integration was seamless.+ Functionality is great for the price.+ After some trials and errors I found a small USB hub that helped me to connect it to an old (10.2" Gen. 8) iPad without external power. I use a Lighning to USB-A female Apple connector and the included USB-A to C cable. If you are interested: the consumption of the device is 5V*0.5A = 2.5W.+ Weight (just perfect for travel, but not too light). I use Koala Smapler on iPad.+ Connectors- I don't know how generic this problem is, but my device is wobblying a bit when I press the bottom left pads, because one of the rubber pads at the back side, or the whole backplate, is not even.- Velocity is quite limited. For me the somewhat exponential #2 pad curve setting worked the best.- Depending on the samples, I found some combinations where pressing two pads at the exact same moment releases only one of the samples (like kick, but no hi hats).

    Perfekt

Perfekt! Kann es jedem nur empfehlen

Good Controller, It's great for professionals as well as beginners. .

    5/5 · Jerome W.

ding Akai Beats. Ableton Live, Maschine and Serato Studio and it worked very well in all of those professional DAWs. I like it because it's small/compacted and I also like the Editor that you can download from Donner's website. Bottom line it's not a toy and it's great for professionals as well as beginners.

    Good sounds and tech.

I am not an experienced user, and found it to be a little tougher to get used to.Otherwise it is a very good sinth.
