Good quality and selection
This is an impressive selection of good quality knives, offering specialism for most kitchen requirements. Each knife is suitably sharp and well-performing out of the box, and the weighting is decent. The finish on the handles is nicely grippy and ergonomic. Besides the knives there's a set of scissors and a sharpening section to keep the knives in good shape over the years.The chef and santoku knives are impressive performers. They're not as weighty, well-balanced or, let's say, lethal as the Damascus knives I own but realistically they're as expensive as this entire set on their own so it's not a fair comparison. (It should be said too that these knives are way less high maintenance than Damascus, which I've seen develop rust over a matter of minutes.) Working chefs would be better suited to individually buying this type of knife but for most people (myself absolutely included) the ones in this set are more than enough - especially with the built-in sharpener.The lack of bread knife may be an issue for some, but I've already found the serration and sharpness of the steak knives more than meets that need on suitably sized breads (bagels, buns etc.)While not as important to me as performance, the look of the block is very good, and the wood finish works seamlessly with my traditional kitchen style.All in all this is a very good quality choice, with an excellent performing range of knives. While it might not cover every kitchen requirement it does do a great deal, and impressively so.
